12 Days of Anime: 2015 Food Edition – Day 7

Pizza - Koufuku Graffiti 10 - 082015 was the certainly the year of orgasmic eating, with countless characters engaging in what can only described as the gratuitous consumption of food. But hey, I run an anime food blog, so what am I complaining about?

For food in anime, 2015 was an awesome year, full of so many delicious dishes. So, it would be remiss of me if I didn’t focus at least one of the 12 Days of Anime on the show that kicked it all of for the year: Koufuku Graffiti. And, specifically, can we talk about pizza? Continue reading

12 Days of Anime: 2015 Food Edition – Day 6

Hamburger - Kekkai Sensen 01 - 01I love a good hamburger as much as the next person, and apparently the entire cast of Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront) agrees with me rather strongly, because the amount of hamburgers they consume in this series is borderline obsessive. So, let’s talk fast food, shall we? For Day 6 of the 12 Days of Anime, we’re taking a look at the hamburgers of Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront)! Continue reading

12 Days of Anime: 2015 Food Edition – Day 5

DRoast beef sandwiches - Death Parade 07eath Parade was chock full of tense moments, suspenseful judgements, and plenty of tragic backstories, so when episode 7 came along with the cast drinking wine, complaining about work, and enjoying a sandwich like normal people, I was thankful for the breather…

And, as it turns out, this episode became one of my favorites from the series, if only because we got a real glimpse into our main cast of characters during an off day. Which is why, for our fifth day of the 12 Days of Anime, we’ll be taking at look at this episode of Death Parade and its delicious roast beef sandwiches.

Bacon and eggs - Akagami no Shirayuki-hime 02Today, we’re paying homage to one of my favorite things to eat… They’re delicious no matter how they’re cooked, whether that means soft boiled, rolled up, over easy, scrambled, poached, or hard boiled. But, of course the most classic way is simply sunny side up! So, that’s what we’ll be remembering about 2015 for our fourth day of the 12 Days of Anime: Sunny side up eggs! Continue reading

12 Days of Anime: 2015 Food Edition – Day 3

My 2015 was basically made when it was announced that Working! would get a third season. I had been waiting since 2011, when the second season concluded, for this to happen, and when it finally aired in the summer 2015 anime season, I wasn’t at all disappointed by what I saw…. It was still as silly and funny as I remembered it to be. So, naturally this series just had to pop up somewhere in my 12 Days of Anime: Food Edition! And so, for Day 3, I present to you the family restaurant meals of Working!!! Continue reading

12 Days of Anime: 2015 Food Edition – Day 2

Feast soup chicken kabobs - Arslan Senki 14

After watching a good amount of anime, you kinda realize that you tend to see the same select dishes over and over again. Omurice. Tamagoyaki. Curry. Ramen. Maybe a hamburger here or there…. So, it’s always so refreshing to see something a bit different. That’s why, for Day 2 of the 12 Days of Anime, I’d like to showcase the Middle Eastern inspired foods Feast - Arslan Senki 10 - 01of Arslan Senki! Continue reading

12 Days of Anime: 2015 Food Edition – Day 1

Bento - Classroom Crisis 01We’re kicking off the 12 Days of Anime with a fun topic, one that always manages to bring a smile to my face whenever I see it shown in anime… I’m talking, of course, about the ever ubiquitous bento that seemingly pops up in every anime ever made.

Not that I’m complaining… I always love seeing those boxes full of a beautifully arranged assortment of delicious foods. It’s such a treat to get a glimpse at what our favorite characters are eating for lunch, and to honor that, our first day of the 12 Days of Anime will be an anime bento retrospective of boxed lunches from 2015! A Taste of Home: Making Wonton and Finding Your Family

Wonton - Ping Pong 06The moment I saw this episode of Ping Pong: The Animation, I just knew I had to share this amazing recipe with everyone who reads my little recipe blog… Not only is episode 6 my favorite of this little sports series that stole so many hearts in the spring 2014 anime season, but it also features one of my favorite meals: homemade wonton! I’m Sick, So Let’s Make Okayu! (Japanese method)

Rice porridge chicken okayu - Akatsuki no Yona 03 - 01Okay… I got sick and it sucks, so here’s a recipe for okayu, or Japanese rice porridge, which is so often seen in anime… I previously posted a recipe for okayu ages and ages ago, but I’d like to revisit this simple dish again with a slightly revised version that is not only far more standardized, but also easier and quicker to make! This recipe is also more in the Japanese style of rice porridge, with more intact rice grains and a thicker consistency compared to my former recipe, which was more of a Chinese style.

If you have a loved one that has come down with a cold, please make this for them! It’s warm, filling, and comforting to eat, as well as easy on the stomach… You can also customize this dish by adding a variety of ingredients, such as ginger to help with digestion, umeboshi for health, or an egg for added protein.
