Haven’t done one of these in a while, so here we go… I’ll be looking at 9 shows this time around (it would have been 10 with Joker Game, but it was so tedious to watch that I gave up on it…), all from the recently completed 2016 spring anime season. Overall, I enjoyed this season a lot while it was happening, but I have doubts that many will have any real staying power.

So, what did you think of spring anime season? What shows did you most enjoy or hate? And, is there anything I missed that I definitely have to check out? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below! Continue reading

The spring anime season has come and gone…. And, while I found many shows entertaining enough while they were airing, but now that it’s all over and done with, there aren’t really any series that stick out in my mind as particularly memorable. Disappointing to be sure… Well, here’s hoping for better pickings in the summer season.

Today I’m looking at 7 shows that concluded in the spring season, which I think is a little less than usual, but I’m still watching 3 series as carry-overs into the summer season (Arslan Senki, Ore Monogatari, Shokugeki no Souma).

The winter 2015 anime season has come to a close, bringing to an end a good number of long running, 2-cour series. It’s sad to say goodbye to the characters and stories we’ve been following all the way since the distant fall 2014 season, but their conclusion will give way to what will hopefully be a fruitful spring season! But, we can’t get to next season without shutting the door on the last, so here are my final impressions on 12 series from winter 2015…. Continue reading

I am so late on all these year end review posts that I am only now posting my final impressions about the last anime season of the year…. But, better late than never, so here we go:

The fall season was a fun one, with lots of surprisingly enjoyable anime and a couple long running series coming to an end. There were a few disappointments as well as some little gems, and was overall a nice way to end yet another year of anime!

Look forward to my annual year in review post where I look at my favorite (and least favorite) titles from 2014! Continue reading

Summer 2014 Anime Season: Final Impressions

Aldnoah Zero 01    Ao Haru Ride 04    Barakamon 02    Captain Earth 03    Free Eternal Summer 01    Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki kun 01    Glasslip 02    Tokyo Ghoul 03    Zankyou no Terror 04

The beginning of the summer 2014 anime season gave me lots to look forward to, with plenty of high profile series and funny little gems just waiting to be discovered. But, now that it’s all over and done with, how did all my picks pan out?

All in all, this season was full of characters I generally cared nothing for, and series with stellar first and last episodes bookending a more mediocre and dull middle section. While some series were better than others, there really wasn’t anything that blew me away, grabbing my attention and making me wish for the next episode to hurry up and air already. Continue reading

Spring 2014 Anime Season: Final Impressions

The spring 2014 anime season has come and gone, full of a combination of hard letdowns and unexpected winners… and plenty of shows I will probably never watch again filling the spaces in between.

If I can sum up my feelings of the season, it would be that the worlds and settings tended to be quite intriguing and mysterious, but the characters overwhelmingly flat in comparison. Overall, it was a good season, but I expect most of the shows I watched to be largely forgettable when faced with the test of time.

As the seasons change from winter to spring, our first round of anime for 2014 draws to a close… so how did the winter 2014 anime season fare? Well, overall I found the season mostly mediocre, with plenty of ups and downs in the storytelling, with only a minority of standouts. Many anime were good, but not quite great, being enjoyable but without that special spark that makes you really love a show. Continue reading
