I’m sure we all saw this one coming… What else could I select as my favorite anime food moment of 2015, other than from the greatest cooking show to come out of this year?
Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars) was a veritable treat to watch, full of mouth-watering dishes, intense cooking battles, and some truly heartwarming moments. And, while I enjoyed all the battles and spectacularly imaginative dishes that sprung from them, if I had to choose just one dish from this series, my favorite food moment would have to be Megumi’s rainbow terrine!
Everyone needs a pick me up, a motivator, or something that inspires comfort… and for Miyamori Aoi, this just happens to exist in her life in the form of a donut.
We’re almost at the end of the 12 Days of Anime, and for our penultimate day, we’ll be looking at Shirobako! This 24 episode series about the anime industry took me by surprise with the amount of tension and emotion each episode made me feel. Airing from fall 2014 and ending in winter 2015, this was one of my favorite anime series of the year. So, without further ado: Don, don, donuts! Let’s go nuts for Shirobako donuts! Continue reading
Friendship can be a funny thing, but sometimes you just need an egg sandwich to finally break down the walls between would-be childhood rivals… It’s the little gestures that count, which is why, for our tenth day of the 12 Days of Anime, I present to you the egg sandwiches of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April). Continue reading
For Day 9 of the 12 Days of Anime, we’re going to be looking at sweets. Cute, sparkly, heart-warming sweets, that happen to be made by one particular girl, equally charming as the treats she makes, named Yamato Rinko. That’s right: it’s time to take a look at the love-filled sweets of Ore Monogatari. Continue reading
I’m going to guess that very few people have watched this short 12 episode, 2 minute per episode series that aired in summer 2015. It’s called Wakako-zake, and it’s basically about an office worker named Wakako who goes around drinking and eating at various establishments while complaining about work and life in general.
In each episode she samples a dish and pairs it with an alcoholic drink. Everything she eats looked so delicious, and made me want to eat it too! In particular, there are two dishes I want to highlight for this eighth day of the 12 Days of Anime: uni cresson and monkfish liver in ponzu. Continue reading
2015 was the certainly the year of orgasmic eating, with countless characters engaging in what can only described as the gratuitous consumption of food. But hey, I run an anime food blog, so what am I complaining about?
For food in anime, 2015 was an awesome year, full of so many delicious dishes. So, it would be remiss of me if I didn’t focus at least one of the 12 Days of Anime on the show that kicked it all of for the year: Koufuku Graffiti. And, specifically, can we talk about pizza? Continue reading
I love a good hamburger as much as the next person, and apparently the entire cast of Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront) agrees with me rather strongly, because the amount of hamburgers they consume in this series is borderline obsessive. So, let’s talk fast food, shall we? For Day 6 of the 12 Days of Anime, we’re taking a look at the hamburgers of Kekkai Sensen (Blood Blockade Battlefront)! Continue reading
