Summer 2015 Anime Season: First Impressions

So much anime, so little time… this summer’s anime season has so much to choose from and I have been just so busy with my trans-pacific move from Chicago to Japan… It’s insane how much needs to be done when you pack up your life in one city and move across an ocean to live in another! So, for that reason, my impressions will be really brief and without screenshots (I’ll try to add them in later! Sorry…).

This season, I’ll be looking at 14 anime… If I’ve missed any notable anime, I’d love to hear your recommendations! What are your thoughts on the summer 2015 anime season?

Hello spring! It’s so nice to have a new anime season paired with the warming weather… So far, I haven’t been blown away by much this season, but a lot of series have been pretty fun and light, matching the spring weather perfectly. There’s lots to look at in this first impressions post, so let’s just right in and take a look at the newest lineup of anime currently airing in the spring 2015 anime season….

Winter 2015 Anime Season: First Impressions

Another year, another anime season, another mixed bag…. There’s lots to choose from this time around, but what’s worth a watch? I am personally not being blown away by the offerings this season, but there are a few series that just might (maybe? possibly? am I just being optimistic because it’s a new year?) break out into something a lot greater, given a little time.

A couple notes: I am watching Durarara!!x2 Ten (and I’m enjoying it), but I really have to rewatch the first season because I can’t for the life of me remember anything from the first season. Oops.

And, because I didn’t want to waste time talking about the follow anime, I will say that I caught the first few episodes of Absolute Duo and Seiken Tsukai no World Break, and I don’t recommend watching them. Absolute Duo is very, very, very mediocre, while World Break is total trash.

And, as always, if you have any comments or recommendations on what this season has to offer, I’d love to hear from you in the comments section below!

As the year winds down, we come to our final anime season of 2014… I’ve found that there’s plenty to choose from this fall, with a good amount of fantasy oriented series airing in particular. There’s also a ton of sequels, including the much anticipated Ufotable adaptation of Fate/Stay Night.

In this edition of First Impressions, I’ll be looking at 13 series! There’s just so much to choose from this season, but they can’t all be worth watching, can they?? Let’s see what the 2014 fall anime season has to offer…

Summer 2014 Anime Season: First Impressions

Akame ga Kill 03     Aldnoah Zero 03     Ao Haru Ride 01    Barakamon 02     Free Eternal Summer 02     Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun 03    Glasslip 02     Sailor Moon Crystal 02     Sword Art Online II 01     Tokyo ESP 01     Tokyo Ghoul 03     Zankyou no Terror 03

The summer 2014 anime season has arrived, bringing with it a host of new series in a wide variety of genres, including horror, mecha, sci-fi, sports, romance, comedy, slice of life, and everything in between… There’s plenty to choose from, so here are 12 shows I’ve been checking out in the last few weeks, and my first impressions of them!

Overall, I’m finding this season quite varied and actually quite good, with a few shows that shine a little brighter than others. There were a lot over very strong first episodes that caught my attention quickly, but unfortunately, the majority of them have failed to match up to their brilliant starts.

Spring 2014 Anime Season: First Impressions

The spring anime season is in full swing, and this time round, there’s plenty of shows in a number of different genres to pick from… but while their synopses might be interesting, are any of them actually worth watching?

Unlike last season, which was resoundingly mediocre, I feel like this season is better, though still pretty hit or miss. I don’t think anything I’ve watched so far has been full on terrible, but there are a few notable disappointments for me in this spring season that I previously had high hopes for. Of course, only time will tell what pans out and what doesn’t, so until then, here are my first impressions of the spring 2014 anime season! Continue reading

Winter 2014 Anime Season: First Impressions

Buddy Complex 01    Hamatora 01    Inari Konkon Koi Iroha 02  Nisekoi 01    Nobunaga the Fool 02    Nobunagun 02  Noragami 02    Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta 02    Wizard Barristers 01

Here we are with 2014’s first batch of anime for the year… there was a lot to choose from this time around, including several mech series, a few slice-of-life/romance anime, and a handful of the supernatural/superpower genre with a bit of light mystery shuffled in there for good measure.

But, while I was excited by some of the promotional material for this season, when it came to the actual shows airing, I honestly wasn’t blown away by any series, finding the majority of those I sampled to be largely mediocre. However, it’s only the start, so here’s hoping that things will pick up over the course of the season! Continue reading
