Hello spring! It’s so nice to have a new anime season paired with the warming weather… So far, I haven’t been blown away by much this season, but a lot of series have been pretty fun and light, matching the spring weather perfectly. There’s lots to look at in this first impressions post, so let’s just right in and take a look at the newest lineup of anime currently airing in the spring 2015 anime season….

After a long, cold winter, spring has finally sprung where I live, so I really wanted to make a spring-inspired dish to celebrate the change in the weather… but, I wasn’t exactly sure what to cook – that is until I saw episode 3 of Koufuku Graffiti that features a dish called takenoko gohan, or bamboo rice!
When the bamboo plants sends up tender young shoots in the spring, they are harvested, making this dish a springtime favorite… Lightly seasoned and deliciously fragrant, bamboo rice is a simple way to flavor your rice, elevating it from a plain side dish to practically a meal all unto itself. With thin strips of soft aburaage (unseasoned deep fried tofu pouches), tiny fragments of sweet carrot, and the slight crunch of the refreshing and earthy bamboo pieces, eating bamboo rice is a veritable treat. The winter 2015 anime season has come to a close, bringing to an end a good number of long running, 2-cour series. It’s sad to say goodbye to the characters and stories we’ve been following all the way since the distant fall 2014 season, but their conclusion will give way to what will hopefully be a fruitful spring season! But, we can’t get to next season without shutting the door on the last, so here are my final impressions on 12 series from winter 2015…. Continue reading
Oden has been popping up in a lot of anime as of late, so I decided it would be a great time to share with you a recipe for this fishcake-laden nabe dish! Lightly flavored in a soy sauce and dashi broth, oden typically contains a wide variety of items, usually a mix of fishcakes, tofu, konnyku, daikon, and other meats. All these ingredients are simmered and stewed together, allowing their flavors to permeate each other.
